John Alexander Helser, 80, of Hagerstown, Md., died Sunday afternoon, July 4, 2010, at the home of his daughter, surrounded by his family.

He was born Jan. 12, 1930, in Indian Springs, Md. He was the son of the late Orville H. Helser and Dorothy Fritz Helser.

Mr. Helser graduated from Clear Spring High School in 1948.

John was formerly a farmer in the Indian Springs area and then a correctional officer at MCI, retiring in 1992.

He was of the Lutheran faith.

John enjoyed fishing, gardening and watching the Hagerstown Suns.

Mr. Helser is survived by his wife of 61 years, Faye Helser; daughters, Susan Clopper and husband, Danny, Debbie Hose and husband, Bill, both of Clear Spring, Md., and Julie Moser of Virginia Beach, Va. He had four grandchildren, Kendra Plafker of Oklahoma City, Okla., Danelle Pikerowski of Clear Spring, and Alex Moser and Ryan Moser, both of Virginia Beach; as well as many nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by a brother, Orville Helser; and a sister, Louise Mills.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, Md.
