Road projects outlined in Washington County report

The Washington County Planning Commission's Annual Report for 2009 lists seven major road projects completed in 2009:

o Widening and other improvements to Maugans Avenue

o Improvements to Mount Aetna Road and its intersection with U.S. 40

o Replacement of an undersized culvert on Mills Road

o Replacement of three culverts on Crystal Falls Road

o Burnside Bridge stream bank restoration

o Lehmans Mill stream bank stabilization and roadway widening

o Chip sealing 32.27 miles of county highways and hot mix asphalt application to another 8.31 miles as part of the ongoing pavement maintenance and rehabilitation program


In addition, it lists six road projects in various stages of design and construction for substantial improvement in 2010 and beyond:

o Improvements to the intersection of U.S. 40 and Edgewood Drive (completion expected late this summer)

o Widening and other improvements to Robinwood Drive from Medical Campus Road to Hagerstown Community College (construction planned for spring 2011)

o Widening Eastern Boulevard from Md. 64 to Security Road (construction planned for fall 2011)

o Construction of Southern Boulevard from East Oak Ridge Drive to Alternate U.S. 40 (construction planned to begin in 2012)

o Improvements to the intersection of Marsh Pike and Longmeadow Road (construction planned for summer 2011)

o Improvements to the intersection of Halfway and Massey boulevards (construction planned to begin this summer)
