July 04, 2010

LAKEWOOD, N.J. -- Jonathan Singleton went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and scored the go-ahead run in the Lakewood BlueClaws' 4-2 win over the Hagerstown Suns on Saturday night.

Singleton's two-run single in the bottom of the third inning gave Lakewood a 2-1 lead.

With the game tied 2-2 in the sixth, Singleton hit a one-out single off Suns starter Daniel Rosenbaum and scored on a double to center by Sebastian Valle.

The BlueClaws added an insurance run in the eighth against reliever Kyle Morrison. Leandro Castro reached second on a throwing error by third baseman Steven Souza -- his 27th error of the season -- and eventually scored on a single by Jeremy Barnes.

The Suns took a 1-0 lead in the second as J.P. Ramirez, Brett Newsome and Sandy Leon hit consecutive singles to start the inning. Leon's single plated Ramirez from third.

The Suns tied the game at 2-2 in the sixth. Destin Hood led off with a single, took second base on an error, went to third on a groundout and scored on an RBI groundout by Newsome.

Souza and Ramirez each had two of Hagerstown's eight hits.

Eric Massingham (3-1) pitched three innings of relief for the win.

Rosenbaum (1-5) took the loss, allowing three runs (one earned) on seven hits and three walks while striking out six.

The Suns return home today and will host the West Virginia Power at 7:05 p.m. at Municipal Stadium.
