BOONSBORO -- With patriotic music in the air and hot dogs on the grill, it was time to have a birthday party for America on Friday.
Hundreds of people spread out across Boonsboro's Shafer Memorial Park for the town's annual Independence Day Celebration.
Dozens of blankets and lawn chairs covered the field, as spectators scoped out prime spots for the after-dusk fireworks show.
Before the sun set, there was plenty of time for relaxing, socializing and even napping while people waited.
William and Kara Ecton, who live near Mercersburg, Pa., sat close to home plate on the ball field.
The kids who came with them were off playing on swings elsewhere in the park.
William Ecton was reading a magazine about Ford Mustangs.
Kara Ecton said she was simply watching all of the activity around her, including politicians shaking hands with constituents.
As he filled $3 bags of cotton candy, Jon Swope had strands of spun sugar all over his clothes and a few in his hair.
