Children's Day

Ebenezer AME Church, 40 W. Bethel St., will hold its annual Children's Day this Sunday, July 4, during their 11 a.m. worship service.

The speaker will be Elder Eric Rollins, Kingdom Life Cathedral, Ranson, W.Va.

If you haven't heard Elder Rollins preach, you are in for a mighty blessing, and for all of you who know him and have heard him, of course, you don't want to miss it!

Come out and support him and encourage the youth!

Church dinner

On July 10, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., join Second Christian Church, 65 W. North Ave., for a dinner to help benefit its Woman's Day.

If you missed the other dinners, here's your chance to support the women!

There are three menus, however you can mix or match any sides until all is gone!

The first menu is fried chicken, potato salad and collards. Menu 2 is fried fish, mac and cheese, and green beans. Menu 3 is turkey salad, deviled eggs, chips, pickles and green beans. All meals include a roll, cake and soda.


The donation for any one of these meals is $8

Delivery is still available. If you can't make it out, be sure to call for your dinner. Just think, you won't have to cook!

Annual Camp Meeting

Join the John Wesley United Methodist Church, 129 N. Potomac Street, for its annual Camp Meeting on Sunday, July 11, at the 10 a.m. service.

This year, the congregation is offering suggestions for favorite hymns and Valerie Simon-Phillips will offer special music and the organ will be featuring many 'special sounds' used in worship 100 years ago.

There will be a free nursery during the service and free parking is available in the City Market lot behind the church.

Come out and enjoy some great music!

Vacation Bible School

Haven Lutheran Church, 1035 Haven Road, will host its Vacation Bible School (VBS) July 26-30, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The theme this year is "Sail the High Seas"

There will be a light supper. Be prepared for a fast-paced program as there is much to charter!

VBS is free to all youth, from three years of age to fifth grade.

Coins to benefit Habitat

The Columbia Bank has designated Habitat for Humanity of Washington County as the recipient of its July 2010 coin machine proceeds.

Simply cash in your coins for paper money at convenient machines in any Columbia Bank branch in Washington County in July and all bank proceeds go to support Habitat for Humanity.

Suns partner with Habitat for Humanity

Have fun watching a game while helping Habitat for Humanity!

Habitat benefit nights are set for: Sunday, July 4, 7:05 p.m.; Friday, July 16, 7:05 p.m.; Saturday, July 24, 7:05 p.m.

All nights are fireworks nights.

Tickets cost $10 each and include admission to the game, a Suns hat, and a Chipotle voucher worth $11.

$3.75 of each ticket goes to Habitat for Humanity of Washington County.

Tickets must be purchased in advance.

Celebrating fashion

The Friends of the Doleman Black Heritage Museum (DBHM) cordially invite everyone to come out and celebrate the History Through Fashion with a "Character Fashion Show and Dance, on Saturday, July 31, from 7 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. at the Best Western Grand Venice Hotel Ballroom, 431 Dual Highway.

I was informed the evening will be filled with fashion where the guest will attempt to identify famous personalities from the past through conversations and fashion worn by the models.

After fashion it will be time to dance the evening away!

Tickets are $20.

Cotillion Ball

The Blossom School of Etiquette is hosting a Cotillion Ball on Aug. 21 at Fountain Head Country Club.

Get ready to support the young ladies of Washington County as they showcase their grace, poise, and charm.
