Kristin B. Aleshire guaranteed that there will be at least one Democratic candidate for Washington County commissioner this year by filing Friday for a second term.

Aleshire, the only Democratic commissioner, said last month he'd run again.

Republican Commissioners John F. Barr and Terry Baker also have filed for re-election.

Commissioner James F. Kercheval, a Republican, is taking a job as executive director of the Greater Hagerstown Committee in December instead of trying for another term.

Republican Commissioner William J. Wivell hasn't filed or publicly announced his intentions.

Besides Barr and Baker, seven other Republicans had filed to run for commissioner as of Friday -- Ruth Anne Callaham, Jeff Cline, Charlie Henson, Bill McKinley, John "Jack" Miller, John Munson and Kevin S. Simmers.

The deadline to file is Tuesday at 9 p.m.

The primary will be Sept. 14. The general election is Nov. 2.
