Md. state police to increase patrols during weekend

July 01, 2010

Maryland State Police said they will increase patrols throughout the state over the July 4 weekend to control drunk, aggressive and speeding drivers, according to a news release.

From Garrett County to the Eastern Shore, state police said they will be implementing traffic and criminal enforcement initiatives to reduce traffic fatalities.

Troopers not normally assigned to road patrol -- as well as supervisors and commanders -- will add more than 75 troopers to the regular on-duty patrol force over the weekend, the release said.

State police warned motorists headed to Ocean City not to try to reduce their travel time by increasing their speed because troopers will be positioned in strategic locations along U.S. 50.
