"'One soldier, sailor, airman or Marine's life is worth more than all the politicians in all the nations of the world.' What a statement. That is awesome. Whoever put that in there, God bless you, too."

- Sharpsburg

"The constant complaining and assignment of blame for the financial mess we are in is really getting tiresome. The Congress authorizes the spending and spends the money. Republicans constantly chastised President Bush for signing off on spending, but compared to President Obama, he was a miser. The socialists took over Congress in 2008, so the budget Obama inherited was not from George Bush but one of their own making."

- Chambersburg, Pa.

"I work at Valley Mall in Hagerstown, and on a daily basis I've seen too many close calls. People, pay attention when you are driving. When you get off 81 coming to the mall, there are two left-turn lanes for a reason - you can't just drift over. That same spot is also proceed without stopping, and the people who have stop signs run them, a lot. There is also an entrance and exit to the mall marked with arrows, so stop trying to come out of the entrance."

"Two hundred eleven instances of unmarked graves, misplaced headstones and the dumping of human ashes in a pile of dirt. Where did this happen? Arlington National Cemetery. It's just the beginning of a scandal at the nation's most hallowed burial ground. How many more remains have been mishandled or misplaced at Arlington? ... Also, millions spent on electronic grave records at Arlington that don't exist. That was taxpayers' money. This happened right here in the U.S."

- Clear Spring

"Bocanegra, Donovan, Edu, Onyewu, Feilhaber, Bornstein, Altidore: Names of 'immigrant' families, right? Probably. Last names of the USA's soccer team at the 2010 World Cup, definitely. We all come from families who were immigrants here at one point, traveling vast distances on a perilous journey to come here. It is our strength, it is what makes us winners."

- Hagerstown

"I'm calling about an article I just read in the paper, and it says 'Labor department offers assistance to illegal immigrants facing wage disparities,' and I wanted to see what everybody else thought of that."

- Greencastle, Pa.

"I'm calling in reference to the smoker who is calling for a fat tax. ... A lot of people that are obese are obese because of illness. Steroids, for instance; prednisone can make a perfectly fit person obese. It's not the people, that every obese person is that because they choose to just continually eat. Do your research, and maybe we ought to do, maybe we ought to tax smokers more to put them through and give them more education."

- Hagerstown

"I constantly get a laugh by reading the comments from the people who call and keep calling the Republican Party the party of no, and telling them they're obstructionists. Either they're too naive to understand, or too completely and totally wrapped up in their Democratic Party to understand that Republicans in Congress can stop nothing. ... The Democrats control everything and ... the Democratic Party can pass anything. They need no Republican votes whatsoever."

- Maugansville

"In regards to the Sideling Hill being closed, when it first opened it was run by DNR, which it should have been left like that, but the Department of Business and Economic Development took it over, and they are the ones that have closed most of the welcome centers in our state. It just seems like we're not anything out here in Western Maryland, and I think if Ehrlich would get in there, maybe he would see that tourism is playing a great part in this part of our state."

- Hagerstown

"I'd like to know if anybody knows of any cat rescue organizations or people in this area, and I'm not talking about the SPCA, I'm talking about individuals or groups of individuals that do this."

- Williamsport

"I was ... shopping the other day and a lady was ahead of me in line and she was looking at the eggs, and I was getting ready to walk up behind her, and I saw that she was putting the large eggs in the carton and taking the small eggs out, and I'm sure when she got up to the register she was only paying for the small eggs. I think this is a problem. I think security or the security cameras should try to pick up on something like this."

- Hagerstown

"This is in response to the callers from Hagerstown and Keedysville who place blame on the Republicans for the oil catastrophe in the Gulf. Your research did not go far enough. It was President Clinton who ... approved the deep water drilling act. Shame on our government, from Clinton to Obama, for not requiring appropriate safeguards before allowing the drilling to begin, and not requiring BP to shut down after some 600 safety violations. Environmentalists must share much of the blame for deepwater drilling, leading the fight against drilling on shore and in shallow water."

- Greencastle, Pa.
