SHARPSBURG - David Mitchel Crigger, 69, succumbed to a long battle with cancer at his home in Sharpsburg, Md., Tuesday, June 22, 2010.

He was born in Jefferson, Md., and was the son of the late Carmel and Kate Crigger.

David served in the Army during the Vietnam War as a communications specialist based in Thailand, from 1966 to 1968. He then worked as a welder for 45 years, and was a proud member of Pile Drivers Local Union 2311 for 39 years. He retired in 2003.

After retirement, David focused on hobbies, including making biodiesel, cooking, fishing, gardening, repairing and maintaining cars, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Carol; son Michael and his wife, Kimberly; daughter Melissa; grandson Christopher; granddaughters Kayla, Haley, and Chloe; brothers Donald and Ronald, and his wife Sarah; sister Shirley Rhinehart and husband Gene; as well as many nieces and nephews.


A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 3, at 2 p.m. at Salem United Methodist Church of Keedysville at 25 Main St., Keedysville MD 21756.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to Hospice of Washington County, Md., or to Salem United Methodist Church. Flowers must be delivered to the church Thursday, July 1, between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. or Saturday, July 3, after 1 p.m.

David was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and he will be missed terribly.
