WAYNESBORO, Pa. -- The 257th Army Band will be coming to Waynesboro Area Senior High School on Monday for a free concert involving patriotic songs, show tunes and vocal selections.

The concert, which is described as appropriate for all ages, starts at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium. Featured vocalist is Sgt. Vicki Golding.

Under the direction of Warrant Officer Sheila M. Klotz, the band extends a special welcome to past and present members of the military.

The 257th Army Band is officially recognized as "The Band of the Nation's Capital."

Wayne Bartholow, who has played 45 years in Waynesboro's Wayne Band, said he developed a contact with the 257th Army Band when trying to schedule a military band for the 2009 WaynesboroFest. The 257th Army Band was unavailable, but offered a future date.

"They said, 'How about next July the 5th?'" Bartholow said.

Bartholow said he's a great fan of brass bands and he feels the 257th Army Band has a great connection to Washington, D.C. He said Waynesboro is fortunate to be in a region that can pull on the resources from Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.

"All of the military bands, they're generous with their time and they're excited to get out in the surrounding communities," he said.
