Jordan wins Legion scholarship



The members of Unit 222 American Legion Auxiliary would like to congratulate this year's winner of the annual scholarship - Bradley Jordan. Bradley will be attending Alderson-Broaddus College this fall.

The Legion is proud of Bradley's accomplishments and hopes his time at college is both enjoyable and rewarding. The Legion wishes him the best of everything, always.

Yard sale



Park Head United Methodist Church will hold a multifamily yard sale Saturday, starting at 8 a.m. It will be held behind Park Head UMC (follow the signs) on U.S. 40 in Big Pool.

The sale will be held rain or shine.

Milestone



Amanda and Ava Grace Brooks of Big Pool would like to wish Paul Brooks a happy 28th birthday July 1.

Language classes offered at library



The Friends group of Washington County Library is sponsoring two free foreign language classes this summer at the Clear Spring Library. The classes are for students entering grades three to six.

The first class is Spanish. It is being offered today to Friday from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

The second class is German. It is scheduled for July 6 to 9 (Tuesday to Friday) from 3 to 5 p.m.

Independence Jam



Clear Spring Independence Jam will be celebrated Saturday, starting at 3 p.m. on the school property at the intersection of North Martin Street and Broadfording Road. Bring the family for this free community event.

Entertainment will be provided by Paint the Sky, Touch of Velvet Quartet, The Back Creek Valley Boys, Stoney Creek Bluegrass Band and local talent singing gospel and patriotic songs, including Erika Ernst Osborne singing the national anthem.

The event will also include children's games, music, fellowship and fireworks.

This event is funded by donations. The names of contributors are in lights at 135 Cumberland St. Donations can be made to Independence Jam, P.O. Box 216, Clear Spring, MD. Donations received by Wednesday will be included in the brochure. For more information, contact 301-842-2252.

Henry Harbaugh, professor of theology at Mercersburg, Pa., addressed the residents of Clear Spring. His discourse was called "Treason and Law." The audience was so moved by the speech, it was printed into a small booklet.
