KEARNEYSVILLE, W.Va. - Florence Elizabeth Dean, 77, of Kearneysville, W.Va., passed away at her home on June 24, 2010.

She was born Florence Harpold in Washington, D.C., on Oct. 29, 1932.

She was a 1949 graduate of Gwynn Park High School, where she was remembered for her "china blue eyes" and for "never pronouncing her 'ings'."

She retired from Hewlett-Packard Co. in 1995.

In her lifetime, she attended both the Methodist and Baptist churches, where she was frequently a Sunday school teacher and church pianist.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Clarence H. Dean Sr., as well as children Henry Dean and Kimberly Nichols of Kearneysville, Clark Dean of Hagerstown, Md., and Tami McDonald and Terri Magers of Martinsburg, W.Va.; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. In addition, she leaves behind siblings Cody Harpold and Norman Harpold of Texas, Juanita Cutler of West Virginia, Charles Harpold of Florida, the Rev. George Harpold of Frostburg, Md., Lois Harpold of Maryland and the Rev. John Harpold of Pennsylvania.


She was preceded in death by her parents, the Rev. and Mrs. William Harpold of Hagerstown, and daughter Janet Moore of Brunswick, Md.

A celebration of her life will be at First Baptist Church of Ranson, W.Va., at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 10.

She generously donated her body to West Virginia University Medical School.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to any humane society are encouraged.
