Fountaindale School for the Arts courtyard named for family

June 16, 2010|By DAN DEARTH

The courtyard at Fountaindale School for the Arts and Academic Excellence received a new name Tuesday during a Washington County Board of Education meeting.

The board voted 5-0 to name the 10,000-square-foot area The Stine Family Courtyard. Board members Paul Bailey and William Staley were absent.

Steven O'Farrell, a representative of the Stines, said after the meeting that the Stine family donated $20,000 to renovate the courtyard. He said the donation would cover a substantial portion of the cost.

Highlights of the renovation include building a stage with lawn seating and a greenhouse for educational use, said Rob Rollins, executive director of school operations for Washington County Public Schools.

O'Farrell said the project will begin in mid-July and hopefully end before the beginning of school.

He said several members of the Stine family attended Fountaindale.
