Mail Call

June 14, 2010

"I've only been here for five years, and a couple years ago when they had this energy savings plan from Allegheny Power and they gave you those squirrelly little light bulbs that are supposed to last seven years - well, I've got a whole bag full of them that have already burnt out in the last two years since I've installed them, and they're supposed to last seven years. ... Most of them last six months. So they're a bunch of garbage."

- Williamsport

"I would like to know how something can be free and cost $24.99 a month? Am I missing something?"

- Hagerstown

"My question to the police chief in Hancock is, where are the parents? This is the problem - the children get away and do vicious things because the parents are not keeping up with them."

- Hagerstown

"I'm calling in response to the caller who called in about the President Obama letting illegal immigrants in so he can legalize them and they can vote for him. Well, there goes your IQ again."

"Some people misquoted Helen Thomas, saying it was about religion. It is about the war between Israel and the Palestinians. They have been fighting about pieces of land for 60 years. Not one of our presidents can solve the problem. Let the U.N. or European countries help. Why are we always the only country to help? Helen Thomas got the truth out of presidents for us. Some ... just get to get elected, and they may do something else after getting elected."

- Williamsport

"I've been wondering when the mainstream media is going to start to give the real news, along with real reporters. Also, the prison guard complaining about his pay raise: Maybe he should look for another job."

- Blue Ridge Summit, Pa.

"Today I saw two West Virginia state troopers pulled off the exit ramp off of 81. They were out of their cars and were pushing a ... lady uphill into a McDonald's parking lot, to get her off the road. I was very impressed, and I thought it was an extreme show of class. I was very impressed."

- Hagerstown

"This is a two-part response; one, to the woman who thinks it's so disgusting to see the tattoo on the lower backside of a human being when they bend over: I think it's more disgusting to see someone's backside, period, than to worry about their tattoo. It's their body. If they want to tattoo and pierce it up, let them alone. And the second part was to the person who was appalled at the ... that aren't being cut, and the pays are. We need to help the inmates, not stifle them."

- Waynesboro, Pa.

"To the caller who is going to vote for Neil Parrott because he's a Republican, I say great, but when I look at the Neil Parrott race, I really want actions. I look at who's going to work for me and local businesses, by ... common sense decisions for the district. Neil Parrott has demonstrated that he will work to balance the budget, cut unnecessary spending and work toward tax relief, which in turn will help bring private jobs to the area."

- Rohrersville

"This concerns the correctional officer openly complaining about not getting a pay raise. Now, true, there is a recession going on, and there's a lot of waste in Maryland government, especially with state jobs in the supervisory section. You have to go to your union representatives, tell them what you want, then accompany your union representatives and visit your legislators. Make these people earn and work."

- Hagerstown

"I live on (U.S.) 40 west. I was headed for Robinwood Drive at the hospital, for an appointment. It took me a half-hour to get through Hagerstown, on account of the traffic backed up for the Blues Fest down there, one day ahead of time. Since they spent all this money on the racetrack out there at Hagerstown for making that beautiful, why couldn't they move that out there and have the County Commuter ... that way the traffic wouldn't be tied up downtown like it was this time."

- Hagerstown

"I would like to thank Mr. Bailey from the BOE for putting Clear Spring High's graduation on hold until they straightened out. This is the only BOE person that has done this in years. ... I thank you, Mr. Bailey, for keeping the high school graduation ... this parent, Mr. Bailey, thanks you for keeping high school intact for graduation. Thank you, Mr. Bailey, for having the courage."

- Washington County

"I'm calling referring to the immigrants that the caller said the president is allowing to come in. Don't they realize the immigrants were here long before the president took office? And don't they also realize the immigrants helped found America? Stop and think about that. Everyone here came from somewhere else."

- Hagerstown

"President Obama, he ran for a position he wasn't qualified for, and is showing now you can't make your snap decisions and you don't listen to the majority of the American people."

- Halfway

"I truly think that it was pathetic and sad that the only mention of D-Day in Sunday's paper was in the Peanuts comic strip. That's getting pretty bad."

- Boonsboro
