Roxbury Correctional Institution

Sgt. Jason Sheller and Sgt. Robert Weeks were selected Roxbury Correctional Institution Employees of the Month for May.

They were selected because of their exceptional job performance in assisting with the on-shift in-service training. All areas of training were correlated successfully, prison officials said in an e-mail.

Sheller and Weeks demonstrated hard work, dedication, professionalism and great organizational skills while exhibiting lead-by-example personas, the e-mail said.

Sheller and Weeks have both been employed with the State of Maryland since 1996.

Partners in Pediatrics

Two employees of Partners in Pediatrics, at 303 W. Memorial Blvd. in Hagerstown, were recognized for 25 years of service.

Denise Holman and Susan Taylor were feted with a luncheon on May 5.

Graystone Mortgage

LANCASTER, Pa. - Graystone Mortgage has hired David Holm as a mortgage loan officer.

In that position, Holm is responsible for facilitating the purchase and refinance of mortgages. He will work with current Graystone Bank customers and with local professionals to generate new business referrals in the Lancaster, Pa., region.


Holm has 10 years of experience. Most recently, he served as mortgage originator in the Lancaster area. Holm has completed all SAFE Act requirements. He is a graduate of the business program at York Technical Institute and a graduate of Warwick High School.

Graystone Mortgage, a division of Graystone Tower Bank, opened in 2007 and is headquartered in Mechanicsburg, Pa. It also operates in Lancaster, State College, Greencastle, Pa., and Hagerstown.

Tower Bank

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - The management of Tower Bank, a division of Graystone Tower Bank, has announced the promotion of Julie Barthalow to Mercersburg, Pa., branch sales manager.

In that position, Barthalow is responsible for the effective execution of branch activities including customer service, consultative sales activities, and operational activities. In addition, she is responsible for strengthening existing customer relationships and building new customer relationships.

She oversees the Mercersburg branch staff members.

Barthalow, of Mercersburg, Pa., joined Tower Bank in 2006 as a customer service supervisor. Previously, she worked as an officer manager at the First National Bank of Mercersburg in Fort Loudon, Pa. She has more than 15 years of experience in the financial services field and has completed several American Institute of Banking courses and seminars.

She is a graduate of James Buchanan High School.

Washington County Department of Social Services

The Washington County Department of Social Services presented awards during its 20th annual Employee Recognition Day on April 30.

During the ceremony at the Social Service headquarters at 122 N. Potomac St. in Hagerstown, employees were recognized for their outstanding performances and contributions, and participation in the agency's Continuous Quality Improvement Program.

Awards were presented to:

o Outstanding Supervisor of the Year - Marie Savko

o Outstanding Support Person of the Year - Martha Marshall

o Most Uplifting Person of the Year - Marcella Shell

Each year, awards are given to staff members who best exemplify the agency's values. This year's recipients were:

The Washington County DSS Director's Award for Excellence was presented to Chris Long, Family Investment supervisor, for 35 years of service.

The recipients of the Outstanding Community Partners Awards were Vicki Sadehvandi, executive director of CASA, and Stephanie Stone, executive director of Washington County Community Partnership for Children and Families.

Power Marketing & Advertising

Belinda Smith, a graphic designer with Power Marketing & Advertising LLC, 101 E. Franklin St. in Hagerstown, received an award at The Frederick County Builders Association 2010 Awards of Excellence banquet.

Smith was awarded Best Project Brochure in the Media Marketing Division for Advantage Homes at Brunswick Crossing.

Smith's design for Advantage Home included a three-piece brochure series that compared Advantage Homes to other competition.

Smith has been with Power Marketing since 1994.

The annual awards ceremony allows members to present their top accomplishments. The awards recognize superior achievement in new home building, marketing and design. The banquet was held on May 5 at the Ceresville Mansion in Frederick, Md.
