Habitat ReStore seeks household items



If you haven't already started your spring cleaning project or working on your home renovation project, now is the time to start and help Habitat for Humanity of Washington County, which is looking for donations of new or gently used home improvement items for its ReStore at 100 Charles St. in Hagerstown.

Hat rally set for Sunday



If you enjoyed last year's hat rally at Second Christian Church, 65 W. North Ave., then you will enjoy this year's as the women will present their annual rally titled "Holy Hats Rally."

It will be Sunday at the 10 a.m. service.

An invitation is open to all women in the community.

Summer program to start at Rec Center



The summer program at Memorial Recreation Center, 109 W. North Ave., begins Monday and will be held Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Arts and crafts, outdoor activities and swimming are planned.

Please note: there is a waiting list for the program.

The swimming pool is open to the public on a limited basis. The pool is open Wednesdays from 3 to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from noon to 5 p.m. Admission is $2 for those ages 6 to 17 and $3 for those ages 18 and older. Those 5 and younger will be admitted free.

Vacation Bible School to start June 21



John Wesley United Methodist Church, at 129 N. Potomac St., invites children to participate in its Vacation Bible School during the week of June 21 to 25 from 7 to 9 p.m. Dinner will be served from 6:30 to 7 p.m.

This year, the VBS will take the children on an Egyptian adventure and study "Joseph's Journey from Prison to Palace." Those ages 6 to 12 are invited to experience real-life dramas, play high-energy games, sample snacks, shop in an Egyptian marketplace, listen to music and meet new friends.

Family cookbooks available at church



John Wesley United Methodist Church has family cookbooks for sale for $12.50 each. The cookbooks contain more than 300 recipes. Proceeds will go to the stained glass window preservation fund.

National Night Out to be held Aug. 3



Mark your calendars for Aug. 3 for the annual National Night Out at Fairgrounds Park from 6 to 8 p.m.

The annual event promotes child safety and helps to bridge the community and the police.

In the past, the community has enjoyed free food, watched entertainers and viewed safety demonstrations and this year plans are being finalized to keep up the tradition.

Art exhibit this weekend



On Saturday and Sunday, from 1 to 6 p.m., Just Lookin' Gallery, at 40 Summit Ave., will feature award-winning, 70-year-old printmaker Pat Kabore and 29-year-old master of metal repouss Jamaal Sheats in an art exhibit titled "Connected Spirits."

The artists will demonstrate and discuss their techniques during the opening reception. Kabore will demonstrate printmaking at 4 p.m. Saturday and again at 2 p.m. Sunday. Sheats will discuss the technique of repouss Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 4 p.m.

The exhibit is part of the gallery's yearlong 15th anniversary celebration.
