Red Men to hold flag ceremony

Williamsport Red Men Tribe No. 84 will hold its annual flag retirement and recognition ceremony Saturday in the club pavilion. The public is invited.

The event starts at 1 p.m. with a concert by the Williamsport Community Band. The ceremony includes honor guards from six patriotic groups, a guest speaker, fly over and taps.

Bring your unserviceable flags to be retired or put them in the flag mailbox in front of the Red Men building before Friday.


Williamsport Lions Club thanks community

The Williamsport Lions Club would like to thank those who purchased funnel cakes and drinks from the club at Halfway Park Days. The proceeds will be used to help those in need in the community.

The Lions Club will meet at American Legion Post 202 on South Conococheague Street Thursday. The principals of the seven elementary schools that feed into the high school will be guests and will receive a donation from the Lions Club.

The club will meet June 24 with District Gov. Richard Liebno to instal officers for 2010-11.

Foreign language classes planned at the library

The Friends group of the Washington County Library is sponsoring two free foreign language classes this summer at the Williamsport Library for students entering grades three to six.

A German class will be offered June 21 to 25, from 10:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Spanish is scheduled from July 12 to 16, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Potomac Garden Club to travel to Waynesboro

Potomac Garden Club will hold its monthly meeting Tuesday, June 15. The club will travel to 147 W. King St., Waynesboro, Pa., for a turn-of-the-century home and garden tour. The carpool will leave Zion Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. Tea begins at noon and the tour will follow. Participants should wear garden hats and flat shoes.

The carnival is coming

The Downsville Ruritan Club's summer carnival will be in Byron Memorial Park June 14 to 19. The family-oriented carnival includes live entertainment nightly, food, bingo and amusement rides.

Advance amusement ride armbands are on sale through Monday for $10 each at the following locations during regular business hours: Williamsport Town Hall, G.A. Miller Lumber Co., Downsville General Store, P&S Equipment in Marlowe, W.Va., and C&O Tile on Governor Lane Boulevard. Advance-purchase armbands can be used on one night of choice.
