Leslie Harry "Les" Kerns, 71, of 11148 Lakeside Drive, Hagerstown, died Saturday, June 5, 2010, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Jan. 25, 1939, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Harry Winton and Mary Catherine Dutrow Kerns.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Lois Gaynell Kerns, on Nov. 6, 1995.

He served with the Army National Guard from 1956 to 1959.

He was employed with Alphin Aircraft and Hagerstown Aviation Services.

His favorite activities were bowling and fishing.

He was a member of The Improved Order of Red Men Club, Conococheague Tribe No. 84, Williamsport.

Les is survived by one son, Leslie R. Kerns of Waynesboro, Pa.; one stepdaughter, Karolyn Henson Martin of Hagerstown; two stepsons, Kim A. Henson of Cumberland, Md., and Kerry L. Henson of Hagerstown; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Winton Junior Kerns and Philip R. Kerns.

Private services will be at the convenience of the family.

The family will receive friends Wednesday at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, on Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society of Washington County, 13011 Maugansville Road, Hagerstown, MD 21740.
