BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. -- The public will decide which flag design will fly over the new courthouse now that the Morgan County Commission has selected three finalists.

Last week, each commissioner chose one designfrom 24 entries. The names of the artists were not revealed to them and will not be revealed until the contest is over.

Public voting for the design of the flag that will fly in front of the courthouse runs through July 14, Commission President Brenda J. Hutchinson said.

Photographs of the three flag designs will be displayed on the county website or can be viewed at the commission office.

The winning design will be announced at the July 15 commission meeting, Hutchinson said.

Commissioner Stacy A. Dugan said the company that will make the flag needs six to eight weeks to complete the project.

No prize, will be awarded to the artist, "just honor and recognition," Hutchinson said.

Morgan County Administrator Jody McClintock said the three winners are from Morgan County. Most of the entrants were from the county, but applications came from as far as Fairfax, Va., she said.

All 24 designs will be framed and will hang in the new Morgan County Courthouse commission offices, Hutchinson said.

People can vote on the Morgan County website at or at the commission office trailer on Mercer Street.
