James Bernard Whipp, 70, of 102 S. West Side Ave., Funkstown, Md., died Thursday, June 3, 2010, at his home.

Born Oct. 3, 1939, in Lappans, Md., he was the son of the late Ray F. and Florence V. McCauley Whipp.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Mary Catherine Warrenfeltz Whipp, who died April 11, 2009.

He served in the U.S. Army for three years, 1961 to 1964.

He was employed as a correctional officer with Maryland Correctional Training Center.

He was a member of Cedar Grove Christian Church.

He was a member of Funkstown American Legion Post 211, Western Maryland Sportsmen's Club, AMVETS Post 10 and Last Man's Club Vietnam Era Veterans, and was a life member of NRA.

He is survived by one daughter, Kathe Whipp of Greencastle, Pa.; one son, James B. Whipp II and wife, Cindy, of Hagerstown; two sisters, Bessie C. Miller and husband, Alan, of Browns Mills, N.J., and Betty Whipp Snyder and husband Dallas E., of Sharpsburg, Md.; two brothers, David L. Whipp and wife, Carolyn, of Chester, Va., and Richard L. Whipp and wife, Kay, of San Pablo, Calif.; two grandchildren, Heather Whipp and Josh Whipp; and a foster brother, Ozzie Stoner of Hagerstown.


He was preceded in death by one brother, Merle F. Whipp Sr.

Memorial services will be at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Pastor Tim Close will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the service.
