Barbecue planned

The women of Second Christian Church, at 65 W. North Ave. in Hagerstown, will host a barbecue Saturday from 11 a.m. until sold out. The menu includes barbecue ribs or fried chicken, potato salad, collard greens, cake, roll and a soda.

If you are unable to attend, call the church office at 301-797-0747 to arrange delivery. The meal costs $8.

Golf tournament

The eighth annual South Hagerstown High School Benefit Golf Tournament will be Thursday, June 17, at Beaver Creek Country Club, starting at 8:30 a.m.

Lunch will be provided at the completion of the golf and before the awards ceremony featuring Phil Petry's barbecue.

The tournament costs $300 for foursomes or $75 per golfer. Entry forms are available at Beaver Creek Country Club or online at

Sponsorships are available from $10 to $300.

The purpose of the tournament is to raise money for the scholarship programs for the Alumni Association as well as the Athletic Boosters Club. Both groups offer scholarships for graduating boys and girls at South High.

Worship schedule

Don't forget, Haven Lutheran Church, 1035 Haven Road, begins its summer worship schedule this weekend. A spoken service and communion will be Saturday at 5 p.m. On Sunday, a nontraditional service is at 8:15 a.m. and the traditional service in the sanctuary is at 9:30 a.m.

Family movie night

Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 802 Summit Ave., will hold and outdoor family movie night picnic Saturday, June 19, starting at 7 p.m. It will be a prelude to its Vacation Bible School, which will be June 20 to 24 from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

Free hot dogs, chips, popcorn and drinks will be available for the movie.
