Fish for free for one day

Head out to any of the county's favorite fishing spots with your gear - fishing is free Saturday without a license.

Anyone can fish in Maryland's freshwaters without a fishing license this day only.

Last day of school set for Tuesday

Tuesday will mark the end of the 2009-10 school year for Washington County Public Schools students.

There will be a 2 1/2-hour early dismissal on the final day of school.

Karate Kid Fun Day planned at mall

Karate Kid Fun Day will be at Valley Mall on Saturday, June 12, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.


The event includes entertainment for children, such as an inflatable bounce, dunk tank, karate demonstration, balloon sculptures and face painting.

This event benefits Stars of Hope Charity, helping organizations such as St. Jude's Children's Fund, the Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation for Medical Research and American Heart Association.

Activities will be participation by donation.

The Humane Society of Washington County will accept donations of pet items.

The Boys & Girls Club of Washington County will accept cash donations.

The movie "Karate Kid" will be shown that day at Regal Cinemas Valley Mall Stadium 16.

Registration to be held for pre-k, kindergartners

Parents of Washington County students entering prekindergarten and kindergarten in the fall of 2010 can register students Monday, June 14.

Please contact your area school for times and locations of registration.

Yard sale to benefit Habitat for Humanity

On Saturday, June 26, Washington County Habitat for Humanity will host a yard sale at Dimensions Dining and Catering, at 132 Old National Pike, from 7 a.m. to noon.

Participants are invited to sell their goods and keep the proceeds.

Those interested in participating can pay $10 to reserve a parking space or $15 for two parking spaces. Additional tables will be available for a fee of $10.

Proceeds from space and table rental will benefit Habitat for Humanity.
