St. Mark's Lutheran Church to hold yard and bake sale

St. Mark's Lutheran Church will hold a yard sale and bake sale Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. in its parking lot next door to Girls Inc. at 601 Washington Ave. in Hagerstown.

Vendors are sought for the yard sale. It costs $10 per parking space or $15 for two spaces. Proceeds will go to benefit St. Mark's community outreach programs, such as the West End block party.

Concert benefits Humane Society

Muttin' for Mutts, a benefit concert for the Humane Society of Washington County, raised $550 for the organization.

Bags of dog food, toys and cleaning supplies were also donated. The concert was hosted and organized by Carolee Bartel, owner of Odyssey Pewter & Gifts, at 25 E. Potomac St. in Williamsport. Paul Miller, the shelter's executive director, was presented with the donation May 27.

The concert was held at the gift shop and featured the band Cassandra Syndrome.

In addition to musical entertainment, caricaturist Laura DiCrisi was on hand to sketch those in attendance, and there were several raffles featuring items from the gift shop and pet care baskets. All proceeds from the caricatures and raffles were donated to the shelter.

Golf tournament

The eighth annual South Hagerstown High School Benefit Golf Tournament will be Thursday, June 17, at Beaver Creek Country Club, starting at 8:30 a.m.

Lunch will be provided at the completion of the golf and before the awards ceremony featuring Phil Petry's famous barbecue.

The tournament costs $300 for foursomes or $75 per golfer. Entry forms are available at Beaver Creek Country Club or online at http://www.shhsrebelalumni.org.

Sponsorships are available from $10 to $300.

The purpose of the tournament is to raise money for the scholarship programs for the Alumni Association as well as the Athletic Boosters Club. Both groups offer scholarships for graduating boys and girls at South High.
