Smithsburg firemen's carnival to open June 28

SMITHSBURG -- This year's firemen's carnival will be June 28 to July 3, according to Smithsburg Community Volunteer Fire Co. Fire Chief Christopher D. Rohrer.

Admission to the carnival is free, but there is a charge for rides.

Penn Wood Shows is providing the rides from 6 to 10 p.m. nightly. A ride-all-night pass costs $15. Family night is Thursday night, when a ride-all-night pass costs $12.

Entertainment will be at 7 and 10 p.m. nightly. The schedule is:

o Monday: Spotlights on You Karaoke with Sandy Wetzel

o Tuesday: Back Creek Valley Boys (bluegrass)

o Wednesday: Dimestore (pop/variety)

o Thursday: Compromise (pop/rock)

o Friday: Kevin Booth (Elvis tribute artist); fireworks at 9:30 p.m.

o Saturday: Jam session (variety from the Cider Press)


The fire company's concession stand will offer country ham, crab cake, pork tenderloin, hamburger, hot dogs, steamers, french fries and hand-dipped ice cream.

Proceeds benefit Smithsburg Fire and its operations.
