A special recognition for WES from troops

The Marine Corps League awarded Williamsport Elementary School children, faculty and staff a certificate of appreciation for their generous support and contributions of candy, cards and letters for the Marines and Navy Corpsmen of Bravo Co., 4th LAR Battalion, serving in Afghanistan.

The Marine Corps troops also responded with personal thank-you messages to the students for their support, cards and snacks.

Girls' soccer meeting today

There will be a summer league and summer conditioning meeting for all girls (ninth through 12th grade for fall 2010) interested in playing soccer at Williamsport High School. The meeting will take place today at the Williamsport High School cafeteria at 6 p.m.

All summer league forms must be handed in at the meeting to be eligible to play. Summer league schedules and summer conditioning handouts will also be available. For more information, call Robbie Shaw at 301-988-4850.


Fishing rodeo at Cushwa Basin

Bring the family for a morning of fun to the annual fishing rodeo at Cushwa Basin on Saturday. Registration is from 9 to 10 a.m., and fishing is from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Prizes will be awarded for winning catches. There will be free food for registered participants and fishing poles available for use.

This free event, sponsored by the C&O Canal National Historic Park and the Williamsport Rotary, is for ages 5 to 15.

Class of 1980 planning reunion

The Williamsport High School class of 1980 is planning its 30th reunion, a picnic at the home of Todd and Tracey Bowman on Saturday, July 31, beginning at 2 p.m.

Angel Food ordering set for June

Angel Food orders will be taken Thursday, June 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, June 12, from noon to 2 p.m. at Rehoboth United Methodist Church, 30 E. Salisbury St.

Payment is made at the time of ordering by cash, money order or food stamps. You can order and pay online with debit or credit card. The program is open to everyone; there are no income restrictions, applications, qualifications or minimums.

Clothes of Hope schedule for June

Clothes of Hope Ministries at Williamsport United Methodist Church, 25 E. Church St., provides gently used and some new clothing. It will be open Thursday and June 17, 9 a.m. to noon; Saturdays, June 12 and 26, from 9 to 11 a.m.; and Mondays, June 7 and 21, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.

There is no charge for the clothing. Monetary donations are appreciated. The ministry will be open Thursday, June 10, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. to collect clothes only.
