Hagerstown man charged with sex offenses

HAGERSTOWN -- A Hagerstown man charged with molesting two girls remained in jail Wednesday following a bond review hearing in Washington County District Court.

During the hearing, Washington County District Judge Mark Thomas raised the bond for Donny M. Verece, 35, from $250,000 to $350,000, according to court records.

Verece, of 11236 Marbern Road, is charged with two counts each of second-degree sex offense, third-degree sex offense, fourth-degree sex offense, second-degree assault and sexual abuse of a minor, according to the statement of charges filed by the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

An investigator went to the home of a Hagerstown woman on May 26 after the woman alleged her 9-year-old daughter had been fondled by a man on May 19, the statement of probable cause said. The girl's 10-year-old sister told investigators she had been fondled by Verece when she was 8 years old, records show.


The two girls were interviewed Tuesday by a Child Protective Services worker, the statement of probable cause said. Both girls told the interviewer they awakened to discover Verece touching them, records show.

Verece was taken into custody Tuesday, the statement of probable cause said.

A Washington County Detention Center official said Verece was being held Wednesday afternoon.

Verece is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in District Court at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29, according to court records.
