Turnout minimal for Ranson, Shepherdstown elections

June 01, 2010|By RICHARD F. BELISLE

RANSON, W.VA. -- Write-in candidate Victoria "Tori" Myers ended Tuesday's Ranson town election with 16 votes, losing her bid to unseat at-large incumbent Councilman Howard Glenville Shade, but 16 votes wasn't a bad turnout when only 70 votes were cast.

Shade received 63 votes in the town's only contested race.

Complete but unofficial results for the rest of the slate included Incumbent Town Recorder Councilmen Ray "Tony" Braithwaite, 70 votes; incumbent Councilman Scott Coulter, Ward One, 69 votes; and incumbent Councilman Donnie Haines, Ward Two, 66 votes.

Myers said she didn't campaign, but her neighbors did it for her. She said she plans to run again in the future.

In Shepherdstown, W.Va., 49 voters cast ballots in that town's election, in which there were no contested races.

Incumbent Town Recorder Lori Robertson received 49 votes, according to complete but unofficial results. Incumbent Mayor Jim Auxer received 45 votes and incumbent Councilwoman Wanda Grantham Smith had 47 votes, according to complete but unofficial results. The three council newcomers were Josh Stella, 38 votes; David Rosen, 44 votes; and Bane Schill, 42 votes.

There was no candidate for the fifth council seat. The council will appoint someone to fill that seat next month, Auxer said.
