May 31, 2010|By JULIE E. GREENE

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- The man whose body was found in the Potomac River on Sunday night near Shepherdstown was Christopher Militscher, 37, of Brooklyn, N.Y., said Deputy Brandon Conway with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department.

While a Maryland Natural Resources Police spokesman said Sunday that officials believed the man drowned, Conway said Monday a cause of death had not been determined.

There were no obvious wounds and the man's body was found in the river between 8 and 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Conway said.

The man's body was sent to Morgantown, W.Va., for an autopsy, he said.

Militscher was staying in a vacation home on Teague Run Road, off River Road, Conway said.
