Mail Call

May 31, 2010

"I think Sarah Palin quit as governor up in Alaska for two reasons. First, all these liberal lawsuits that they were mounting against her - which were totally ridiculous, and most of them lost - they were forcing to spend her time and taxpayers' money for her defense. Now, the second reason she quit probably is to make the big bucks, but who can blame her? Look at Al Gore and all the big bucks he's been making, and Bill Clinton, probably George Bush, all the rest of them."

"Hats off to the two carpenters who worked so hard to beautify the Antietam church. Your long hours and hard work surely paid off. Thanks a lot for everything."

- Sharpsburg

"I'm calling in response to the Boonsboro caller that says we ought to round up all the illegal immigrants like they did Japanese during World War II, and teach them the Old Testament. This person is totally insane. You can't make people learn a religion they don't want to learn. Most Mexicans are Christians because the Catholics taught it to them years ago, before America. Secondly, most Mexicans that I know do speak English and they do work. They're not here getting things free. Most of them come over here for jobs. These people from Boonsboro and little towns like that that hardly have any Mexicans in them are so biased towards something that doesn't even exist in their communities."

"To the person who called in asking about if anybody was paint-balled on Wednesday: You might want to just verify if it was paint because somebody destroyed my car, and I don't think it was paint. I actually think it might have been nail polish. And it was up by the fairgrounds."

- Hagerstown

"I would like to know the name of the trees that are planted downtown that have the white buds on right now."

- Hagerstown

"I'm calling concerning the stabbing. All these kids now are stabbing people all the time. I think now the judge should start ... for 10 years. They get 10 years, first offense is 10 years. And if he does this, it might stop this stuff because right now they're knifing and cutting, cutting all the time. Please, whatever you do, put this call in Mail Call. The stabbing has got to stop. God bless the world."

- Hagerstown

"I would like to agree with the Waynesboro caller that was saying that Democrats want to move the country forward, unlike the Republicans, who want to take the country back. I agree that the Democratic Party tends to think about everybody and not just themselves. Yeah, they might have an agenda, but I believe that the agenda is good for the majority of the people."

- Boonsboro

"About this training center that Mullendore and the fire and rescue want to build for $12,750,000: Why can't they do their training at the fire station or the rescue that they work at? That way, they will be there and do their training, and when they get called, they can leave the fire station instead of a place somewhere else."

- Washington County

"About the mole problem: We bought mole chasers, either solar-powered or battery-powered, available at ... home-improvement stores. They work in our garden. Hope it helps."

- Huyetts

"This is on Republicans taking their country back. This is a response to a person from Waynesboro, Pa., on this. They're saying Republicans are always screeching about how they want to take the country back, and Democrats, however, want to move our country forward. The Democrats moving our country forward, OK - moving our country forward in debt more and more every day. That's how forward they're going. I think the Republicans need to get the Democrats and you environmental people, and move you out of the country, if you want to start environmental stuff and everything."

- Hagerstown

"If the government would spend more time on families staying together than homosexuals in the service, this would be a better country to live in."

- Hagerstown

"I agree completely with the 'throw the bums out' approach to voting, but the problem is the people who win, then become the bums. The newly elected immediately become attached to big business and political groups in order to raise money to win reelection. We need to keep trying, though."

- Waynesboro, Pa.

"About the Palins' speaking fees: Sarah is in the $100,000 range. It's her daughter that is going to get $15,000. As to others getting higher fees, I think it a sad reminder of our worship of celebrity people in this country that we pay that kind of money to see and hear them speak in person."

- Greencastle, Pa.
