Suns blank Drive

HAGERSTOWN -- Jeff Kobernus went 2-for-4 with an RBI and three Hagerstown pitchers combined to shut out Greenville in the Suns' 4-0 victory over the Drive on Monday at Municipal Stadium.

Suns starter Paul Demny (3-1) went five innings for the win, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out seven. Kyle Morrison followed with three shutout innings, but gave up back-to-back singles to start the ninth. Rob Wort replaced Morrison and recorded three straight strikeouts for his second save of the year.

Hagerstown (28-23) took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Brett Newsome led off with a double and scored on a single by Destin Hood, who went to second on an error on the play, took third on a groundout and scored on a sacrifice fly by J.R. Higley.

The Suns made it 3-0 in the fourth. J.P. Ramirez hit a one-out single and scored on Adrian Nieto's two-out double.

Hagerstown added its final run in the seventh. Higley singled, went to second on a single by Justino Cuevas, took third on an error on the play and scored on a single by Kobernus.

Drive starter Pete Ruiz (4-3) took the loss. He allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits and two walks while striking out five.

Reynaldo Rodriguez went 2-for-4 with a double for Greenville (25-27).
