DAMASCUS, Md. - Mrs. Esther Marie Hykes Rhoderick, 76, of Damascus, and more recently a resident of Pleasant View Nursing Home, Mount Airy, died Thursday evening, May 27, 2010, at Dove House, Westminster. She was the wife of Mr. Harold L. Rhoderick, her husband of 37 years.

Born Nov. 8, 1933, in Greencastle, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Amos Emanuel and Alice Marie Kennedy Hykes.

Mrs. Rhoderick worked several years for McDonalds, Damascus.

She was a member of Providence United Methodist Church, Kemptown; and the Loyal Order of Moose, No. 371, Frederick.

Surviving besides her husband are sons, Harold "Gene" Deibert and wife Sherry of Quincy, Pa., and Anthony "Tony" Deibert of Greencastle, Pa.; stepchildren, Edward Rhoderick Sr. and wife Robin, and Peggy Fleming and husband Thomas, all of Mount Airy; grandchildren, Mark, Lori, Matthew and Lisa Deibert; stepgrandchildren, Ed Rhoderick Jr., Rebecca Stanley, Rachel Rhoderick, Tricia and Donnie Fleming, James Rhoderick Jr., and Tracy Yokay; 18 great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law Marie Rhoderick of Martinsburg, W.Va.


Mrs. Rhoderick is also survived by siblings, Harry Hykes and wife Sharon, Anna Haines and husband Bob, Susan Sherrill and husband Jim, and Grace Mellott and husband Monte, all of Greencastle, Pa., Rhoda Custer and husband Bernard, Ruth Shilling and husband Bill, and Margaret Bumbaugh and husband Harry, all of Waynesboro, Pa.; Vera Teach and husband Elwood of Hagerstown, Mary Johns and husband Fred of Birmingham, Ala., and Naomi Newcomb and husband Lynn of Sabinsville, Pa.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a stepson James Rhoderick Sr.

Friends may call at Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus, on Tuesday, June 1, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be from her church, Providence United Methodist Church, on Wednesday, June 2, at 11 a.m. Her pastor, Rev. Donna L. Renn, will officiate. Interment will follow in the churchyard.
