Pa. band to perform concert on Monday night

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The CVSM Community Symphonic Band will be performing its annual Memorial Day concert at 7:30 p.m. on Monday at the Memorial Band Shell at Chambersburg Memorial Municipal Park.

Admission to the concert is free, although donations to Cumberland Valley School of Music, the local nonprofit community school of music that sponsors the band and concert, will be greatly appreciated.

Lawn chairs and blankets are suggested. The rain location will be Chambersburg Area Middle School.

Under the guidance of band conductor David Wenerd, the Memorial Day program will be a diverse mixture of patriotic music and concert band repertoire, including:

American Flourish by R.W. Smith, Abbey Road by Hearshen, Pirates of the Carribean by Wasson, Colonel Bogey by Alford, The Sea Treaders by McBeth, Arabesques by Jean Jean, Csardas by Monti, South Pacific by Rodgers/Bennet, Patriotic Sing-along by Ployhar, Armed Forces Salute by Lowden and The Stars and Stripes Forever March by Sousa

The featured soloist this year will be Chambersburg Area Senior High School senior Ashley Wyrick. Ashley is also a Merit Award Winning clarinet student at the Cumberland Valley School of Music who will be attending Kutztown (Pa.) University next year majoring in music education.

Wenerd is a teacher in the Chambersburg Area School District and chairman of the K-12 music department. He has been the director of the CVSM Community Band since its inception in 1993.
