May 26, 2010

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - State Supreme Court Clerk Rory Perry will conduct a free, 90-minute seminar on the court's proposed Revised Rules of Appellate Procedure on Thursday in Martinsburg.

The seminar will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the Berkeley County Commission hearing room in the Dunn Building at 400 W. Stephen St.

The meeting is open to the public and the clerk will be available to field questions about the procedure at the end of the seminar. The rules are posted on the Supreme Court website at http://www.state.wv.us/wvsca/rules/appellate-revisions.htm.

The revised rules will be out for public comment for 60 days.

"Without question, this is one of the most significant actions the court has taken in decades," Chief Justice Davis said in a news release on Tuesday. "The revised rules modernize and comprehensively change the appellate process to provide a decision on the merits in every appeal and to ensure greater transparency at every step."
