Rodgers rejoins Funkstown Town Council

May 26, 2010

FUNKSTOWN -- Former Funkstown Town Council member Robert "Bobby" Rodgers Jr. was selected to fill a vacant position on the council during a meeting Tuesday night.

Rodgers was appointed to the position on a 3-1 vote, with council members Richard Gaver, John Phillips III and Sharon Chirgott voting in favor.

Council member Richard Nigh voted "no."

The vacant position was created when Chirgott was appointed assistant mayor, the position held by Paul N. Crampton Jr. before he was elected mayor on May 3.

Crampton defeated former Mayor Robert L. Kline in the election.

Town Clerk/Treasurer Brenda Haynes said there were three candidates for the council vacancy: Kline, Barry Warrenfeltz and Rodgers.

Kline was not at Tuesday's council meeting.

Rodgers joined other council members at the meeting table in his first meeting and expressed thanks for his appointment.

"Thanks for placing me back on council. I'll do my best," said Rodgers, who served on the council from 2000-08.
