Suns keep on winning

LAKEWOOD, N.J. -- The Hagerstown Suns won for the fifth time in six games Monday night, racing to a 5-0 lead after four innings on the way to a 6-3 triumph over the Lakewood BlueClaws in the South Atlantic League.

The Suns (26-19) took a 2-0 lead in the third inning. J.R. Higley led off with a single and Sandy Leon walked. Both runners moved up a base on a passed ball before scoring on Francisco Soriano's two-run single.

Hagerstown made it 5-0 in the fourth. Justin Bloxom led off with a walk, Destin Hood singled and Higley hit a two-run double before Sandy Leon singled in Higley.

Lakewood (24-21) cut the lead to 5-1 in the sixth. With one out, Jonathan Villar and Leandro Castro hit singles and Jonathan Singleton walked to load the bases. Jeremy Barnes popped up for the second out, but a wild pitch by Trevor Holder let Villar score before Holder struck out Anthony Hewitt.

The Suns got the run back in the seventh. Eury Perez hit a one-out double and scored on Jeff Kobernus' double.

The BlueClaws cut the lead to 6-3 off reliever Patrick Arnold in the bottom of the seventh. Sebastian Valle singled and scored on Stephen Batts' double. Batts scored on Jiwan James' single.

Holder (4-1) worked six innings, allowing four hits and a walk with one strikeout. Dean Weaver struck out three in two innings for his eighth save.
