Yard sale planned

St. James Brethren Church will hold a yard sale Saturday, June 12, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. A pavilion with picnic table can be rented for $15. Parking lot spaces cost $10. There will also be a soup and sandwich sale. For more information, call Brenda or Sam Griffith at 301-582-3343.

Ravens Nest banquet

The Tri-State Ravens Nest 12's Player of the Year Award Banquet will be Saturday, June 5, starting at 5 p.m. at Hager Hall and Convention Center, at 901 Dual Highway, Hagerstown.

Tickets cost $35 per person.

The Baltimore Ravens player in attendance will be defensive tackle Haloti Ngata, who wears No. 92.

Three football scholarships to Tri-State area seniors and a "True Grit" award will be given away that evening.

The event will include a buffet dinner, silent auction and DJ.

Block party

The third annual Locust Point Neighborhoods 1st block party will be Saturday, June 26.

Hagerstown Lions Club

Tuesday - Michael Thorsen, principal of Barbara Ingram School for the Arts, will be the guest speaker.

Worship schedule

Starting Sunday, June 6, Haven Lutheran Church, 1035 Haven Road, will begin its summer worship schedule.

If you are unable to make it on Sundays, you can join them on Saturdays at 5 p.m. for a spoken service and communion.

On Sundays at 8:15 a.m., the traditional service in the sanctuary will be held and at 9:30 a.m., there will be Worship on the Lawn. Bring a lawn chair and dress casually.

The Washington County Museum of Fine Arts will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for its courtyard enclosure project Wednesday from 2 to 3 p.m.

The public is invited to attend.

Class of 1970

The South Hagerstown High School class of 1970 is planning its 40th reunion at the Elks Lodge Saturday, Sept. 11. The reunion committee is looking for classmates.

Golf tournament

The eighth annual South Hagerstown High School benefit golf tournament will be Thursday, June 17, at Beaver Creek Country Club, starting at 8:30 a.m.

Entry forms are available at Beaver Creek Country Club or online at Sponsorships are also available.

All proceeds will go to the scholarship funds for the South Hagerstown High School Alumni Association and the South Hagerstown High School Athletic Boosters. Both groups offer scholarships for graduating boys and girls at South High.

Saturday - Mid-Atlantic Robotics Society will discuss Lego League programs, 2 p.m.

'Karate Kid' fun day

Regal Cinemas Valley Mall Stadium 16 will host a "Karate Kid" fun day benefiting several nonprofits, including the Humane Society of Washington County, the Boys & Girls Club and Regal Cinema's Stars of Hope Charity.

The event takes place Saturday, June 12, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

"The Karate Kid" will be shown that day.

The Humane Society will be on-site with information and adoptable animals. Adoption applications will also be available.

The Boys & Girls Club will also have an information table.

Activities include a karate demonstration by White Tiger Martial Arts, an inflatable bounce and dunk tank provided by Backyard Inflatables, balloon sculptures, face painting, games, prizes and a make your own bandanna table. It is requested that participants bring their own light-colored, bandanna, as supplies are limited.

Activities are "participation by donation."

The Boys & Girls Club will accept cash donations and the animal shelter will accept pet items.

Suggested items include Kongs, Purina Cat Chow Complete Formula, Purina Kitten Chow, Yesterday's News Cat Litter, and dog and cat toys.
