Shirley was a past employee of Fairchild Aircraft, where she assisted with the FAD Magazine publication. After World War II, she was then transferred to the corporate office, where she was named the executive assistant to the chief of engineering. Shirley later began working with Sharrett Inc., Hagerstown, where she became the vice president and secretary. Upon her retirement, Shirley had accumulated more than 36 years of service.
Her accomplishments include serving on the Board of Directors of the YMCA and Brook Lane Health Services, 20 years of service on the Alumni Board of Hood College, voted Business Woman of the Year and active in the local chapter of the International Management Council, where she was also elected as the first woman president in 1977. She also held various positions in Zonta International.
In addition to her husband, Shirley is survived by one brother, Jack, and his wife, Sally Ambrose, and a nephew, Jack L. Ambrose, all of Seattle, Wash.
The funeral service be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Beaver Creek Cemetery, Hagerstown. The Rev. Ann Boyd will officiate.
There will be no visitation.
