In boys doubles, second-seeded brothers Eric and Greg Harrison of North Hagerstown defeated Linganore's Kyle Ginsberg and Michael Wirtz, 7-5, 6-3. Clear Spring's Danny Mott and Gavin Myers also advanced with a 6-0, 6-0 romp over Allegany's Jeremy DeMont and Jeremy Knipple.
Five of Washington County's six singles representatives fell in the quarterfinals. Boys county champion Joseph Knight of North Hagerstown, the second seed, lost to Linganore's Steven Lesko, 6-2, 6-3. Clear Spring's Tyler Brown fell 6-1, 6-0 to Allegany's Gary George, and North's Ryan Paolini lost 6-1, 6-1 to Linganore's Michael Lesko. Smithsburg's Lara Seidman lost to Tuscarora's Stacy Brewbaker 6-3, 6-3 in girls singles, while South Hagerstown's Kara Henson fell 6-2, 6-1 to Tuscarora's Ana Chernova.
Williamsport's Kyle Marshall and Brad Miller lost to Linganore's Al Starlings and Ben Shumate 6-2, 6-0 in boys doubles. Boonsboro's Sarah Colgan and Ashlyn Hawbaker fell 6-4, 6-2 against Allegany's Amber Beckman and Olivia Umpierre in girls doubles. North Hagerstown's Dominic Baxley and Mollie Johnson were defeated by Walkersville's Jon Cayer and Kelly Misner 6-3, 6-1 in mixed doubles.
The semifinals begin this morning at 8:30, with championships to follow. Regional finalists advance to next weekend's state tournament.

West Virginia state championships
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- John Mundey and Harlie Stotler won individual titles for Berkeley Springs, which also won the boys 4x800 relay on the first day of competition Friday.
Mundey won the Class AA boys 3,200 in 9 minutes, 54.19 seconds, with teammate Cory Yarrington taking fourth in 9:58.54. Max Langenstein, Yarrington, Corey Shetler and Mundey teamed to win the 4x800 in 8:17.15.
Stotler won the Class AA girls shot put with a throw of 37 feet, 6 inches for the Indians, who are second with 24 points in the boys team race and tied for fourth with 13 points in the girls team race. Ritchie County leads Class AA boys with 30 points, and Weir leads Class AA girls with 26.
In Class AAA boys, Hedgesville was in the team lead with 24 points, leading Jefferson by a point. The Eagles' Chris Deaner, Scott Jones, Michael Walters and Marquis Woods teamed to win the shuttle hurdles relay in 56.96, while Deaner (6-8) and Woods (6-6) took second and third in the high jump. Jefferson was second in the 4x800 relay in 8:08.99, while Martinsburg finished third in 8:09.85. Jefferson's Aaron Roberts tied for second in the pole vault, clearing 13 feet, and Brandon Doughty was third in the 3,200 in 9:23.20.
In Class AAA girls, Jefferson's Kaitlyn Clark took second in the pole vault by clearing 10-6, losing in a jump-off to John Marshall's Kiley Defibaugh. Alyssa Boucher finished third in the 3,200 in 11:17.26, and the Cougars were second in the shuttle hurdles relay in 1:04.87. Jackie Kriss of Hedgesville tied for third in the pole vault with a leap of 9-6. Jefferson was second in the team race with 26 1/3 points, trailing Buckhannon-Upshur, which had 34.
