School to host carnival, fun run on Saturday

On Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., a 1-mile fun run and carnival will be held at Maugansville Elementary School.

The event is open to the public.

Proceeds go to Alex's Lemonade Stand in honor of Henry Scheck.

Registration for the run will be from 9 to 10 a.m.

The race starts at 10 a.m. and events begin immediately following the race.

A $5 entry fee per child includes unlimited games and unlimited trips in the four inflatables.

An additional charge of $1 per activity will include "Come Dunk Your Favorite Teacher" in the dunk tank, ring toss and rides in the barrel train.

Other special events planned include:

o Noon - Performance by the Hagerstown Heat Cheerleaders.

o 12:30 p.m. - Zumba in the gym with Liz Martz; $1 admission fee.


While listening to the live band play, stop by and enjoy some food like hotdogs, steamers, Moe's Southwest Grill nachos, snowballs and popcorn.

If you have a sweet tooth, check out the bake sale or play the cake walk game for $1 a chance.

For a small fee, try the "human sticky wall."

Students honored

Maugansville Elementary School recognized students for displaying the Character Counts! trait of caring at the fifth Golden Table of the year April 29.

Students received a book from the Maugansville PTA, a school-related goodie bag, healthy treats, a certificate and a star to wear designating their accomplishment.

Those students recognized were:

Kindergarten: Ayden Staupp, Haileigh Golden, Kylie Davis, Nathan Baxter, Charlie Krumpe, Asher Gillis, Hailey Connor, Abigale McNairn, Nathan Lanza and Ryland Mata.

First grade: Dwayne Hallock, Brooke Upton, Drew Wallech, Logan Fowler, Gage Crawford, Jenna Kreuger, Mekhi Davison, Morgan Rettig and Ryan Wade.

Second grade: William Klein, Nikita Govani, Afua Mireku-Baabu, Alfred Larsson, Bossman Owusu-Ayim, Kelsey Ross, Wayne Smith, Jewelia Curry, Jazlyn Smiley and Samuel Semler.

Third grade: Ryckel Bean, Justin Bower, Zoey Thompson, Ralphiel Davis, Madison Jenkins, Michael Smith, Mya Rattay, Mo Teague, Haley Davis and Alex Rudy.

Fourth grade: Mackenzie Allen, Thomas Forrest, Emily Poffenberger, Hunter Beasley, Joshua Martin, Lexi Mellott, Courtney Horner, Reed Martz, William Grove and Bryce Mishler.

Fifth grade: Tara Supit, Jeremiah Clemmer, Ray Ward, Tylese Pickett, Alijah Wright, Angelina Grinevich, Erica Greenwald and Christian Harris.


Uno's restaurant on Garland Groh Boulevard at the Centre at Hagerstown will donate 20 percent of the sales today to Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer.

Preprinted forms have been sent home with Maugansville Elementary School students to distribute to family and friends.
