Suns do it to Butler, Shorebirds

SALISBURY, Md. -- Justin Bloxom had three hits and drove in three runs, including an RBI single in a five-run fourth inning, on Thursday to lead the Hagerstown Suns to a 10-6 victory over the Delmarva Shorebirds.

Bloxom hit a two-run single in the third to post the Suns to a 3-0 lead before Hagerstown (22-18) blew the game open in the fourth en route to its fourth straight win.

Hagerstown led 9-0 after 5 1/2 innings before Delmarva started to come back.

Suns starter Jack McGeary (4-1) pitched five innings to get the victory, allowing three runs on five hits, while striking out four.

Hagerstown roughed up Delmarva starter Tony Butler for eight runs on nine hits in 3 2/3 innings.

Dan Lyons and Steven Souza each drove in two runs for Hagerstown.

The Suns took a 1-0 lead in the first when Francisco Soriano led off with a double and scored on a Lyons sacrifice fly.


After Bloxom gave Hagerstown the 3-0 lead after three innings, the Suns took control on Sandy Leon's sacrifice fly, a Lyons run-scoring single and a two-run double by Souza before Bloxom capped the rally.

Delmarva scored two runs in the fifth, one in the sixth and three in the seventh to close the gap.
