Monterey battle events planned

May 20, 2010

BLUE RIDGE SUMMIT, Pa. -- Preservationists for the Battle of Monterey Pass will be holding special events on Friday, June 25.

Washington Township (Pa.) Supervisor Elaine Gladhill said an unveiling of the planned battlefield memorial site will begin at 4:30 p.m. Attendees should gather at the Blue Ridge Fire Hall.

The site plan includes a visitors center to commemorate the only Civil War battle fought on both sides of the Mason-Dixon Line.

Gladhill said the ceremony will be followed by a walking tour led by historian John Miller.

The walking tour will start at Hawley Memorial Presbyterian Church at 6 p.m. and will cost $5, Gladhill said.
