John Walter Ambrose, 94, of 11400 Stonecroft Court, Hagerstown, Md., died Monday, May 17, 2010, at the VA Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born March 19, 1916, in Washington County, Md., he was the son of the late David S. and Margaret Cook Ambrose.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Ann Ambrose, on Oct. 11, 1991.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army.

He was employed by Coca-Cola for 30 years.

He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church.

He was a life member and past president of the Alsatia Club, and a member of Morris Frock American Legion Post 42.


He is survived by two sons, David G. Ambrose of Baltimore and Ronald J. Ambrose of Martinsburg, W.Va.; one sister, Charlotte Sheeley of Quincy, Pa.; two granddaughters, Rosa Ambrose and Alana Ambrose, both of Martinsburg, W.Va.; nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Ruth Pearl of Hagerstown.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Baer and Elizabeth Rosenhagen.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Eric A. Norgard will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. Military honors will be conducted at the graveside by Morris Frock American Legion Post 42.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the service.
