Water service to be interrupted Tuesday in Mount Aetna area

May 17, 2010

As the result of a water main break, water service will be interrupted Tuesday beginning at 9 a.m. in the Mount Aetna water service area, Washington County Department of Water Quality personnel said Monday.

Service will be restored as soon as possible, the county said in an e-mailed release.

The affected area includes Mt. Aetna Road from Highpoint Drive to Crystal Falls Drive, Highland View Academy, and Crystal Falls Drive from White Oak Road to the Mount Aetna Volunteer Fire Co. station, said Kim Bowers, superintendent of Water and Wastewater Operations at the Washington County Department of Water Quality.

The Mount Aetna Adventist Elementary School will be closed Tuesday due to the outage, he said.

Bowers said officials hoped to restore service within an hour to an hour and a half, but they are dealing with an older section of water main, so repair time is "difficult to say."

Residents were advised to make provisions for water for drinking and sanitary use.

Upon restoration of service, water customers are cautioned to continually check for discoloration, particularly prior to using washing machines.

Further information can be obtained by contacting Bowers at 240-313-2600.
