May 17, 2010

FREDERICK, Md. -- A Gettysburg, Pa., woman was killed Saturday morning when her car was struck by a pickup truck at the intersection of U.S. 15 and Roddy Creek Road, Maryland State Police said.

Betty Jenkins, 78, was stopped at a stop sign at Roddy Creek Road and continued toward a center crossover when her 1998 Chevrolet Lumina was struck by a 1994 F-150 pickup truck being driven north on U.S. 15 by Conan Hankla, 18, of Thurmont, Md., state police said.

Jenkins died at the scene of the 10:24 a.m. crash and a front-seat passenger in her car, Daniel Jenkins, 80, of Gettysburg, was transported to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center with severe injuries, state police said.

Hankla was taken to Gettysburg Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries, police said.

A preliminary investigation shows Betty Jenkins was at fault due to a right-of-way violation, state police said.
