MAUGANSVILLE - Thelma Frances Benner, 90, of 13831 Countryside Drive in Maugansville, Md., died Friday, May 14, 2010, at her home.

Born Sept. 19, 1919, in Groton, Va., she was the daughter of the late Noah Samuel and Christy Mae Ross Riggin.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Arthur Benner.

She retired from the Maryland State Police.

She is survived by one daughter, Katherine Mae Benner of Westover, Md.; one sister, Ruth Friedmann of Baltimore, Md.; three grandchildren, John Myers and wife, Gail, of Salisbury, Md., Bill Houck III and wife, Donnett, of Maugansville, and Michael Houck and wife, Annette, of Westover; 15 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; one niece; and one nephew.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Horace Riggin.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. Chaplain with Hospice of Washington County, Sally Maxwell, and the Rev. Allen Robinson will officiate. Burial will be Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. in Loudon Park Cemetery, Baltimore.


The family will receive friends Tuesday one and a half hours before the service at the funeral home.
