HAGERSTOWN -- The Asheville Tourists scored five runs in the eighth inning and defeated the Hagerstown Suns 5-2 on Sunday evening before 1,226 fans at Municipal Stadium.
Suns reliever Wanel Vasquez (2-2) came on in the eighth for starter Daniel Rosenbaum -- who pitched seven shutout innings -- and immediately allowed Joey Wong's homer to right. Eliezer Mesa walked, and with one out Joseph Sanders singled. With two outs, Jared Clark homered to right to give the Tourists (14-21) a 4-2 lead. After Tyler Massey walked, Rob Wort came on in relief of Vasquez and gave up Orlando Sandoval's RBI triple to right.
The eighth-inning fireworks spoiled a sensational outing by Rosenbaum, who allowed just four hits and struck out five without giving up a walk.
Hagerstown (18-18) scored both its runs in the seventh. J.R. Higley walked, J.P. Ramirez singled and a throwing error sent the runners to second and third. Brett Newsome singled in Higley, and Ramirez scored on Sandy Leon's sacrifice fly.
