Williamsport's Hammond no-hits Fort Hill

CUMBERLAND, Md. -- Jason Hammond pitched a no-hitter with eight strikeouts to lead Williamsport to a 5-1 victory over Fort Hill on Friday in the first round of the Maryland Class 1A West playoffs.

Hammond helped his cause with two hits, including a solo home run, and two RBIs. Blake Bandeff had a double, a triple, an RBI and a run scored for the Wildcats (9-12), while Ryan Butts also had two hits.

Williamsport will travel to play top-seeded Clear Spring on Monday.

CUMBERLAND, Md. -- Allegany scored two unearned runs off two errors in the bottom of the second inning and held on to beat Boonsboro in the first round of the Maryland Class 1A West playoffs.

Justin Lewis scored the lone run on an RBI single by Scott Haupt for the Warriors (3-18).

INWOOD, W.Va. -- Stephen Miele had a three-run homer and four RBIs to lead Hedgesville over Musselman in the first round of the West Virginia Class AAA Region II Section 2 playoffs.

Justin Coulter had two RBIs for the Eagles (16-13), who will play Martinsburg for the championship in a best-of-3 series.

Jay Donoghue had two hits and an RBI and Nick Buckner had two RBIs for the Gaels (11-16).

Goretti will play Avalon today at 9:30 a.m. at Grace Academy.
