This year is a significant year for Relay For Life of Washington County as this event has been selected to host the cancer prevention study.

This study tracks participants for a period of approximately 20 years. Similar studies in the past have linked the effects of smoking to lung cancer, among other things.

To be eligible, participants must be:

o Between the ages of 30 and 65

o Never been diagnosed with cancer

o Be willing to commit to a long-term study

The enrollment process involves signing a consent form, getting a waist measurement and giving a blood sample. Following the initial enrollment, participants will receive a questionnaire in the mail. Questionnaires will also follow every two years for approximately the next 20 years.
