Ruritan Club plans Memorial Day event

Maugansville Ruritan is planning a dedication of the War Memorial and the new gazebo on Memorial Day, May 31.

If you know of any Maugansville veterans who should be honored, call Bob Walton at 301-739-6742 with name, dates of service and branch of service.

Fundraiser planned

On May 19, 20 and 21, Uno's restaurant on Garland Groh Boulevard in the Centre at Hagerstown will donate 20 percent of sales for each of those days to Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer.

Preprinted forms will be sent home with the students of Maugansville Elementary to distribute to family and friends.

School event planned Wednesday

The Maugansville Elementary School second grade has been working hard learning about communities and has completed a service learning project on New Orleans.

As a result, more than $600 has been raised to purchase books for the schools in New Orleans.

The second-graders will present an exhibition of their learning on Wednesday, May 19, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the cafeteria.

Visitors can come and go at their leisure during this hour block of time. Students will also be sharing their expertise on what they have learned as residents walk through the exhibition.

Since much of this service learning project was about helping the community, there will be a book donation booth where new or gently used books can be donated along with a donation booth for Alex's Lemonade Stand in support of Henry's Hustle that is being held at the Elementary School on Saturday, May 22.
