South's offense explodes against Kennedy

SILVER SPRING, Md. -- Destanie Agee went 5-for-5 and hit for the cycle to lead the Rebels' 21-hit attack in a five-inning Maryland Class 3A West first-round win.

Elizabeth Sharpe, Allison Herr and Katie Forsythe had three hits apiece, while Courtney Showe, Taylor Leather and Darian Kamara added two hits each for South (2-17), which rallied from a 9-1 deficit after one inning with a 12-run second inning.

The Rebels will play on Monday at Seneca Valley in the quarterfinals.

MANCHESTER, Md. -- Candance Horchner went 3-for-4 with an RBI for Williamsport as the Wildcats defeated Manchester Valley in the first round of the Maryland Class 1A West playoffs.

Alexis Fisher pitched a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts, and Autumn Wahler went 3-for-4 for Williamsport (12-7), which will play at No. 1-seed Catoctin on Monday in the quarterfinals.

North Hagerstown 8, Damascus 7

DAMASCUS, Md. -- Zach Eppard scored the winning goal on an assist from Alex Henry 3:34 into the fourth overtime to send the Hubs home with a win in the first round of the Maryland Class 3A-2A West playoffs.

Eppard finished with four goals and an assist, while Henry had three goals and one assist. Caleb Mittel scored a goal for the Hubs (8-7), while Bryan Wills and David Warren had two assists each and Andrew Barnhart made 16 saves.

The win is the first postseason victory in North program history. The Hubs will play Saturday in the second round.

GIRLS LACROSSE



South Hagerstown 6, Einstein 3

KENSINGTON, Md. -- Lindsay Beall made 23 saves to lead South Hagerstown past Einstein in the first round of the Maryland Class 3A-2A West playoffs.

Heather Callahan scored twice to help the Rebels (1-12) claim their first victory of the season. Lauren Marriner had a goal and two assists, Daphne Bryant had a goal and an assist, and Courtney Jenkins and Amanda McGee each added a goal.

South will travel to face top-seed Middletown on Saturday.

Walkersville 14, North Hagerstown 2

WALKERSVILLE, Md. -- Alissa Miller and Jackie Keller each had a goal and Jackie Stewart made 10 saves for the Hubs, who suffered a first-round loss to Walkersville in the Maryland Class 3A-2A West playoffs.
